Newcastle United have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international midfielder Jeff Hendrick on a three-year deal. The Magpies beat out several other clubs, including Crystal Palace and Burnley, for the 30-year-old's signature.
Hendrick, who has 78 caps for his country, joins Newcastle from Burnley, where he spent the last four seasons. He made 142 appearances for the Clarets, scoring 11 goals and providing 17 assists.
The midfielder has a wealth of experience at both the club and international levels. He has played in the Premier League, the Championship, and the Europa League, and he helped Burnley reach the FA Cup semi-finals in 2020.
Hendrick is expected to play a key role in Newcastle's midfield this season. He is a versatile player who can operate in a number of positions, including central midfield, attacking midfield, and wide midfield.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said he was delighted to add Hendrick to his squad.
"Jeff is a quality player with a lot of experience," Howe said. "He is a good passer of the ball, he can score goals, and he is a hard worker. He will be a great addition to our team."
